Ron DeSantis is a Republican. Which is to say he is a proud, angry man who sees himself as a conservative. And you know what, I agree with him on most things.
But the thing is, I agree with you too.
Now, I don’t want to take this thing too far from Trump. And I don’t want to take it too far from the people who voted for Trump.
But it’s a fact: I’ve had conversations with a number of Trump-voting Republicans who are now voting against the president. Because Trump was the first man who said nice things about them, and who spent a lot of time with them.
It’s also a fact that when someone’s been an ally for a long time, he can sometimes come back and rip him a new one. Like, literally, he did.
He was the one who went after Joe Manchin and Joe Donnelly. And Joe Manchin and Joe Donnelly are both in the Senate. There’s a reason the Senate has a bipartisan committee to make sure there is no partisanship.
But the truth is, as far as Trump’s relationship with these people, it is not a good one.
He didn’t treat them with much kindness. He didn’t treat them with the respect and courtesy they deserved.
That’s why this is what I call the revenge of the Trump GOP.
