Minnesota Polls Show Democratic Governor Mark Dayton is a Bigger Threat Than Ellison

New poll shows GOP challenger leading Minnesota AG Keith Ellison

The latest national poll from Quinnipiac University shows Minnesota Democratic Governor Mark Dayton with a lead of 39 percent to Mark Zuckerburg’s “Super PAC,” 25 percent for Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. In the battle for Minnesota governor, the polls indicate that Ellison’s challenge is less about the GOP primary than about the potential for changing the future of the Democratic Party in the state of Minnesota.

The poll of voters nationwide reveals that only 6 percent of voters have a favorable view of Ellison and only 3 percent have a favorable view of Dayton. According to the poll, 44 percent of voters have an unfavorable view of Ellison and 37 percent have an unfavorable view of Dayton. The poll indicates that 54 percent of voters in Minnesota have a favorable view of Ellison and 43 percent view him unfavorably. Thirty-one percent of Minnesota voters have a favorable view of Dayton and 26 percent view him unfavorably.

The poll also indicates that 51 percent of voters in Minnesota have a favorable view of Hillary Clinton and 29 percent view her unfavorably. Twenty-nine percent of voters in Minnesota have an unfavorable view of Hillary Clinton and only 17 percent view her unfavorably. According to the poll, 47 percent of voters in Minnesota have a favorable view of Clinton and 43 percent view her unfavorably. Thirty-two percent of voters in Minnesota have a favorable view of Donald Trump and 11 percent view him unfavorably. Sixteen percent of voters in Minnesota have a favorable view of Marco Rubio and 15 percent view him unfavorably.

The poll indicates that Ellison could have a larger impact in this year’s general election against President Obama than Dayton. Only 14 percent of voters in Minnesota believe that Dayton will be able to beat Obama in November, but 46 percent of voters think Ellison will be able to. Twenty-four percent of voters in Minnesota think that Obama will beat Dayton in the 2016 election, but 28 percent of voters think that Ellison will be able to do it. The poll indicates that 22 percent of voters in Minnesota believe that Dayton is better suited for the presidency than Ellison is, while 35 percent of voters in Minnesota believe that Ellison is better suited for the presidency than Dayton is.
